I am happy to let everyone know that we will be starting practices up at the Mississauga Kendo Club on Friday May 6, 2022. Our practices for the May-August term will be on Fridays, from 7-9pm (barring Canada Day, July 1st). We are very excited to welcome everyone back to keiko and look forward to practicing with everyone.
A few things as we get back to keiko:
First is the updated times for practice. Due to changes at UTM, our practices are from 7 – 9 pm rather than 10pm in years past. This means that everyone does need to be promptly and ready to go.
Second, we kindly remind everyone that when we get back, our practice fees for the term are due. These are $150 for adults and $130 for juniors (under 18) and students for the 4-month term (May-August). Remember our practice fees play for our rental charges.
Third, while proof of vaccination and masking requirements are being eased, University campuses are taking a more cautious approach. This means that UTM may require masks for longer than other venues. Please remember to bring a mask; we will update everyone regularly at practice about masking requirements. And of course, we encourage all members to be up-to-date with their vaccinations.
Lastly, we will be working on getting ourselves back to keiko … that means basics before ji-geiko. Everyone please be ready for this, and to show our new beginners as they come join us what the foundation of our kendo is. We may be rusty and need to reset ourselves, and footwork and suburi drills are ever present and forever helpful. Practicing with strong spirit and commitment is key!
We look forward to seeing everyone on May 6th!
